Josh Houston
Due Diligence and Compliance Officer

What you do: I play a critical role assisting the investment team with operational due diligence. From an operations perspective, I evaluate prospective investment managers and manage risk on the existing portfolio. In addition, I am responsible for Ohana’s compliance program. Previously, I spent 8 years at the Kamehameha School Endowment in Honolulu, Hawaii providing performance reporting and operational due diligence.

What you love most about being a part of Ohana: Living and working in Marin with a great group of people.  The boutique atmosphere fosters creativity and growth.

What you support: I have been involved in the Elks Lodge for many years. I volunteered my time assisting in the management of Honolulu Lodge’s bar and restaurant with a $3M operational budget. In addition to the Elks Club, I invested numerous hours revitalizing Hawaiian culture with local charitable organizations. This included volunteering at preschools, restoring fish ponds and coral reefs, and harvesting taro with locals.

Now living in the bay area, I am looking forward to becoming more involved in the local Elks Lodge organization and investing my time in local charities.

Education/Training:

BA degree in Economics from the University of California Santa Cruz.

Masters in Accountancy from University of Southern California.

Profile: I grew up wanting to go into law enforcement, but instead stumbled into investment due diligence and compliance. If I wasn’t working for Ohana, I would enjoy growing grapes, turning it into great wine and sharing with other wine enthusiast.

Words to live by: “illegitimi non carborundum”.  When I went off to the Navy, my father sent me a letter with these words of encouragement and translated to ensure I understood; “don’t let the b@#&*rds get you down”
